Domino Park officially opened Sunday — the fanfare included acrobatics, music and performances — and was flooded with children all weekend. Domino Park, sits on six acres of the former Domino Sugar refinery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. . The refinery ceased operations in 2004, and the complex sat unused for years before it was purchased by developer Two Trees in 2012. . After 14 years, the New York Muffins shop which anchored the corner of Bedford Avenue and North 6th Street has fallen prey to the rising rents and gentrification of what made Williamsburg "Williamsburg". The small nitty-gritty small businesses that peppered the neighborhood and gave it its flavor have one by one slowly disappeared. Recently, Pops closed on May 31, 2017, Academy Records migrated over to Greenpoint and Radegast Beer Hall may soon need to relocate. As new more substantial brands claim corners of Williamsburg such as Muji which recently opened on North 3d, the face and landscape of Williamsburg morphs into a path similar to growing New York neighborhoods. There have been many creative suggesting and alternative ideas that I have heard at the MTA town hall meetings and online but this idea is truly from left field and something that's quite innovative. A temporary pontoon bridge that would span the East River (with a draw bridge section for passing ships) that would help assist with the 300,000 displaced daily passengers that rely on the L-Line. Not likely to happen but it's certainly getting a lot of media buzz.
